Patrick Ewing is a retired Jamaican-American basketball player and current coach, known for his outstanding career in the NBA. Born on August 5, 1962, in Kingston, Jamaica, he moved to the United States and became a dominant force in college basketball at Georgetown University, where he led the Hoyas to three NCAA Championship Game appearances and won the title in 1984.
Ewing was selected as the first overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. During his 17-year NBA career, mostly with the Knicks, he became one of the league's premier centers. Ewing was an 11-time All-Star, a member of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team, and an Olympic gold medalist in 1984 and 1992 with the USA Basketball "Dream Team."
After retiring as a player, Ewing transitioned into coaching and has held various assistant coaching positions in the NBA. In 2017, he became the head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas, his alma mater.
